These are the essays you have received before, now read aloud from start to finish in my own voice. The drum figures which Davis used throughout the piece are now spoken here instead of just written down.
I have a long performance history with this piece, and with my percussion background, it’s no surprise that this is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I’ve sang and conducted the original “Carol of the Drum” SATB octavo, I’ve performed “The Little Drummer Boy” as a piano solo, and I’ve led and accompanied choirs from both the piano and the snare drum (including playing snare drum last Christmas).
